Overview
Valkyrie is the Swiss Army knife of Clash Royale and arguably the most well-rounded card in the entire game. At 4 elixir, this Rare melee mini-tank offers 1,908 HP with 254 splash damage in a full 360-degree radius every 1.5 seconds. She shreds ground swarms, murders support troops behind tanks, and survives long enough to become a counterpush threat. In the March 2026 meta, Valkyrie boasts an impressive 13-16% usage rate and a consistent 52-54% win rate, making her one of the most played and effective cards at every trophy range. Her versatility fits into Hog Cycle, Graveyard, Royal Giant, and countless other archetypes seamlessly.
Strategy
When to Play
Valkyrie excels as a reactive defensive card that transitions into offense. Drop her on top of enemy ground pushes, especially when the opponent groups support troops behind a tank. Her 360 splash means she damages everything around her simultaneously - a Valkyrie placed in the middle of a Witch + Skeleton Army + ranged troop push eliminates all three threats at once. On offense, she functions as a mini-tank for your win condition: place her in front of Hog Rider, Balloon (if played at the bridge), or Royal Giant to absorb incoming damage.
In single elixir, she is your primary defensive anchor against ground pushes. In double elixir, she becomes an aggressive tool - split pushing with Valkyrie in one lane while your main push goes the other forces opponents into difficult decisions.
Placement Fundamentals
The key Valkyrie technique is the surround drop: place her directly on top of enemy troops so her 360 splash immediately hits everything. Against Witch, drop Valk on top of her to kill both the Witch and all spawned Skeletons. Against a push with a tank + support, place Valkyrie behind the tank so she walks into the support troops first, killing them before the tank reaches your tower.
For pulling troops, plant Valkyrie 4 tiles from the river in the center to drag building-targeting units (Hog Rider, Giant, Golem) to the center where both towers fire. Her 1,908 HP means she survives long enough to tank multiple hits while princess towers shred the pulled troop. On offense, drop her at the bridge directly - never behind your tower, as her medium speed means she takes too long to cross the arena.
Synergies
Valkyrie + Hog Rider is one of the oldest and most effective combos in the game. Valk tanks while Hog deals tower damage, and her splash clears any swarms the opponent drops to counter Hog. With Graveyard, Valkyrie acts as both tank and splash-killer: she walks to the tower, tanks shots, and if the opponent drops a counter like Witch or Archers, her splash eliminates them while Graveyard Skeletons pile up. Musketeer behind Valkyrie creates a deadly split: Valk tanks melee attackers while Musketeer eliminates them from range. Tornado pulls enemies into Valkyrie's splash radius for devastating area denial.
Matchups
Strong Against
- Witch: Valk placed on Witch kills her and all Skeletons for a +1 trade, then counterpushes with significant HP remaining
- Skeleton Army: 360 splash instantly wipes all 15 Skeletons without Valk losing meaningful HP - a clean +1 elixir trade
- Goblin Gang: Splash destroys all five Goblins immediately. One of Valk's cleanest defensive interactions
- Dark Prince: Valk tanks Dark Prince's charge (his shield breaks) and wins the 1v1 with over 600 HP remaining
- Graveyard: Placed in the center of the Graveyard zone, Valk's splash continuously kills spawning Skeletons, fully countering the win condition
Countered By
- Air troops (Minions, Mega Minion, Baby Dragon): Valkyrie cannot target air. Flying units kill her for free if she has no ranged support
- P.E.K.K.A: With 816 DPS, P.E.K.K.A obliterates Valkyrie before splash matters. Never send Valk solo into a P.E.K.K.A
- Inferno Tower/Dragon: Continuous damage melts Valk's 1,908 HP rapidly. She needs a reset card (Zap, E-Wiz) to survive
- Mega Knight: MK's superior HP (4,091) and jump damage overwhelm Valkyrie. She needs tower support to survive the fight
- Ranged splash from distance: Executioner or Bowler hitting Valkyrie from across the river whittle her HP before she can engage
Tips
Surround drop technique: Always place Valkyrie directly on top of support troops rather than in front of them. Her 360 splash hits everything around her on landing, maximizing immediate value.
Center pull tank: Use Valkyrie 4 tiles from the river in center position to pull Hog Rider, Giant, or Golem. Both towers fire while Valk's 1,908 HP tanks comfortably.
Anti-Graveyard placement: Drop Valk one tile toward the river from your tower when defending Graveyard. She walks forward into the spawn zone, continuously splashing incoming Skeletons.
Pig push blocker: Against Hog Rider pig pushes, plant Valkyrie at the river edge on the same side. She blocks the Hog's path and kills him with help from the tower.
Behind-the-tank positioning: When enemy runs Giant + Musketeer + Witch, place Valk behind the Giant. She ignores the tank and walks directly into the squishy support troops.
Counterpush mini-tank: After defending, Valk often survives with 800-1200 HP. Drop Hog Rider or Miner at the bridge and let surviving Valk tank tower shots for your win condition.
Lane splitting pressure: In double elixir, drop Valkyrie in the off-lane while pushing your main lane. Opponents must spend 3-4 elixir addressing her or lose 700+ tower damage.
Common Mistakes
Playing Valk behind your tower: Her medium speed means she takes 6-7 seconds to reach the bridge, giving opponents time to build a full counterpush or set up buildings.
Using Valk against air decks: Valkyrie is dead weight against Lava Hound or Balloon-heavy decks. Identify the opponent's win condition early and adjust your defensive strategy accordingly.
Placing in front of enemy pushes: Dropping Valk in front of a Giant + support push means she fights the tank while support troops kill her from behind. Always place behind the tank.
Overcommitting on offense: Valkyrie alone rarely threatens a tower enough to warrant heavy support. Use her leftover HP from defense as a bonus tank, not as a primary offensive investment.
Ignoring her counters in cycle: If the opponent has P.E.K.K.A or Mega Knight, do not rely on Valkyrie as your sole ground defender. Have a secondary plan like Inferno Tower or swarm cards.
