Overview

Miner is the most versatile 3-elixir card in Clash Royale and the only troop that can deploy anywhere on the map. With 1000 HP and 160 damage per hit at tournament standard, Miner excels as a chip damage engine and off-tank for fragile win conditions. In the March 2026 meta, Miner maintains a solid 6.2% usage rate with a 52.8% win rate on Ladder, thriving in Miner Poison control, Miner Wall Breakers, and Lava Miner decks. His real power is not raw damage but forcing responses: every Miner on the tower demands 3+ elixir to counter, and ignored Miners deal 480+ damage over their lifetime. He transforms cheap surviving troops into lethal counterpushes by tanking tower shots so your Bats, Spear Goblins, or Wall Breakers connect freely.

Strategy

When to Play

Miner is a constant pressure tool, not a one-time commitment. In single elixir, send Miner to the tower whenever you have elixir to spare and want to probe the opponent's response. The goal is to force their small spell or mini-tank on defense, then punish with your real damage cards. Against passive players building Elixir Collectors, Miner the Collector to deny 2-3 elixir -- this single play swings the entire match economy. In double elixir, cycle Miner every 8-10 seconds paired with Poison for unavoidable 600+ damage per cycle that no deck can sustain.

Do not play Miner proactively if your opponent has a heavy push incoming. Hold Miner to tank for counter-push troops instead -- a defensive Musketeer or Bats surviving with a Miner tanking in front deals far more damage than a solo Miner.

Placement Fundamentals

Randomize Miner placement to prevent prediction counters. The four key positions are: front of tower (most common, tanks longest), behind tower (avoids center-placed troops), anti-building (top corner, bypasses Tombstone and Goblin Cage), and same-tile (directly on an Elixir Collector or Princess). Against Skeletons or Goblin Gang defenders, place Miner on the outside edge so tower shots help clear swarms. Against Knight or Valkyrie, place Miner on the far side of the tower to maximize tower hits before the tank arrives.

Synergies

Miner + Poison is the premier control combo: Miner tanks tower while Poison kills defensive swarms and deals 600 tower damage over 8 seconds. Together they deal 1080+ guaranteed damage per cycle. Miner + Wall Breakers is explosive -- Miner tanks the first tower shot, letting both Wall Breakers connect for 520 damage. In Lava Hound decks, Miner tanks for Lava Pups after the Hound pops, turning cleanup into a second win condition. Pair Miner with Bats for a 5-elixir push that demands immediate spell response or deals 700+ damage.

Matchups

Strong Against

  • Elixir Collector decks: Miner on Collector denies 2-3 elixir and deals chip. Completely dismantles pump-heavy strategies like Golem and Three Musketeers.
  • Siege decks (X-Bow, Mortar): Miner bypasses their defensive fortress entirely. They must commit elixir to defend tower while you pressure safely.
  • Glass cannon decks: Miner on Princess, Dart Goblin, or Magic Archer eliminates key support troops for equal or positive trades.
  • Slow beatdown (Golem): Miner opposite lane punishes every Golem placement. They cannot defend Miner + Poison while supporting their Golem.

Countered By

  • Valkyrie: 1548 HP and splash damage kills Miner and any support behind him. Valkyrie survives with HP to counterpush for a strong defensive trade.
  • Knight: At equal level, Knight trades efficiently against Miner while surviving for a counterpush. Common in Hog 2.6.
  • Skeleton Army: Surrounds Miner and kills him before he connects meaningfully. Requires prediction Poison to prevent.
  • Guards: Shield absorbs hits while Guards kill Miner. Spell-resistant, making them a reliable hard counter.
  • Tombstone: Continuously spawns Skeletons that distract Miner from tower. Placement near tower makes Miner retarget repeatedly.

Tips

  • Randomize placement: Never play Miner to the same tower spot twice in a row. Alternate between front, behind, left edge, and right edge to prevent prediction counters like Skeleton Army or Goblin Gang.

  • Collector snipe timing: Send Miner the instant an Elixir Collector is placed. Miner reaches it in 1.5 seconds and denies 2-3 elixir, making their 6-elixir investment nearly worthless.

  • Tank for Bats: Miner + Bats is 5 elixir that demands immediate response. If opponent has no small spell in hand, Bats behind a Miner deal 700+ damage before dying.

  • Poison stagger: Deploy Poison 0.5 seconds before Miner arrives at the tower. This catches early defensive troops (Skeletons, Goblins) inside the Poison radius before they can distract Miner.

  • Snipe backline: Use Miner to assassinate Princess, Dart Goblin, Magic Archer, and other glass cannons placed behind the tower. Miner kills them in 2-3 hits for an equal elixir trade with massive value.

  • Wall Breaker combo: Send Miner to the tower 1 second before Wall Breakers arrive. Miner absorbs the first tower shot, guaranteeing both Wall Breakers connect for 520 combined death damage.

  • Track their counter: Identify your opponent's Miner answer (Knight, Valk, Gang) in the first Miner play. Time future Miners when that counter is out of rotation or committed elsewhere on defense.

Common Mistakes

  • Same spot every time: Playing Miner front-center repeatedly lets opponents pre-place Knight or Valkyrie for perfect trades. Predictability turns Miner from a threat into a free defensive cycle.

  • Miner into full elixir: Sending Miner when your opponent has 10 elixir and their counter in hand wastes 3 elixir. Wait for them to spend elixir or commit defensively before pressuring.

  • Ignoring tank role: Only using Miner for solo chip and never pairing him with Bats, Wall Breakers, or surviving counterpush troops wastes his most powerful function as a tower-targeting tank.

  • Over-committing with Miner Poison: Playing Miner + Poison (7 elixir) every cycle regardless of your opponent's hand leaves you defenseless. Alternate between Miner-only chip and full Miner Poison pushes.

  • No Collector awareness: Failing to Miner opposing Elixir Collectors lets beatdown opponents snowball a 2-3 elixir advantage per pump. Always prioritize sniping Collectors over random chip damage.
