Overview

Graveyard is a 5-elixir Legendary spell that spawns 20 Skeletons over 10 seconds in a targeted area, dealing up to 1340 total damage if every Skeleton connects at tournament standard. In the March 2026 meta, Graveyard holds a 4.1% usage rate with a 54.6% win rate, thriving in Splashyard and Giant Graveyard archetypes. Unlike other win conditions, Graveyard's damage is indirect and accumulative -- individual Skeletons deal 67 damage each, but unchecked they overwhelm towers in seconds. The card's ceiling is enormous: a perfectly placed Graveyard with Poison clearing defensive troops guarantees 800-1000 tower damage per push. Its weakness is predictability, making varied placement and proper tanking essential for high-ladder success.

Strategy

When to Play

Graveyard requires a tank absorbing tower shots before you commit. Never play naked Graveyard -- the tower one-shots each Skeleton, dealing zero damage. The ideal timing is when your tank (Knight, Ice Golem, Giant) reaches the tower and the opponent has already committed their swarm counter on defense. In single elixir, play Graveyard conservatively -- one well-timed push per minute is enough. In double elixir, cycle Graveyard + Poison every 15-20 seconds to drain their tower through accumulated chip.

Watch for the opponent's Poison, Valkyrie, or Skeleton counter in their starting hand. If they reveal their Graveyard answer early, apply pressure when that card is out of cycle.

Placement Fundamentals

The standard placement centers Graveyard on the tower so Skeletons spawn on all sides, making single-target counters (Mini P.E.K.K.A, Knight) chase them in circles. The aggressive placement shifts the center toward the river, spawning Skeletons faster near the tower. Against Poison users, use the offset placement at the far edge of the tower to minimize Skeleton overlap with defensive Poison radius.

Critical detail: Skeletons spawn in a random pattern within the circle. Placing Graveyard slightly to the left or right of center forces the opponent to reposition their counter, buying 1-2 extra Skeleton hits that translate to 134-200 bonus damage.

Synergies

Graveyard + Poison is the definitive combo: Poison kills defensive Skeletons, Goblins, Minions, and Bats while dealing 600 tower damage. Together, a tanked Graveyard + Poison push costs 9-12 elixir but deals 1400-1800 total damage including Poison chip. Ice Golem is the cheapest tank at 2 elixir -- its death frost slows defensive troops, letting Skeletons swarm uncontested. Knight offers more HP (1452) for only 1 extra elixir, absorbing tower shots for 8+ seconds. Giant creates the heaviest variant: Giant soaks all tower aggro while Graveyard Skeletons pile up for devastating damage. Pair with Tornado to pull defensive troops away from the Graveyard radius, protecting your Skeletons from splash.

Matchups

Strong Against

  • Single small spell decks: If their only answer is Zap or Log, Graveyard overwhelms because small spells cannot kill all 20 Skeletons. They need splash troops or Poison.
  • Heavy beatdown (Golem, Lava Hound): Graveyard punishes opposite lane when they commit 8 elixir in the back. They lack elixir to defend Graveyard while supporting their tank.
  • Siege (X-Bow): Graveyard bypasses their defensive fortress. X-Bow players struggle to defend Graveyard without Poison or Valkyrie.
  • Miner decks: Miner control decks often lack strong Graveyard answers. Their Knight gets overwhelmed by Skeleton volume.

Countered By

  • Poison: Kills Skeletons as they spawn and deals tower damage. The symmetrical counter -- both players spend 5 elixir but Poison negates most Graveyard damage.
  • Valkyrie: Splash damage clears Skeletons in 1-2 spins while tanking hits. Placed in the center of Graveyard, she shuts it down completely.
  • Archers/Dart Goblin: Fast attack speed picks off Skeletons one by one before they stack. Cheap and effective if your tank cannot reach them.
  • Skeleton Army: Counter-intuitive but effective -- 15 Skeletons kill both your tank and Graveyard Skeletons through sheer numbers if placed correctly.
  • Baby Dragon: Splash damage clears Skeletons while flying over your ground tank. Hard to prevent without Lightning or Fireball.

Tips

  • Vary placement every push: Alternate between center, left offset, and right offset Graveyard placement. Predictable placement lets opponents pre-place Valkyrie or Poison for zero-damage defenses.

  • Tank must reach tower first: Wait until your Knight, Ice Golem, or Giant is absorbing tower shots before playing Graveyard. Naked Graveyard against an active tower deals near-zero damage.

  • Poison their counter: If you see them drop Archers or Dart Goblin to defend Graveyard, pre-Poison that area on your next push. Poison kills them before they can clear your Skeletons.

  • Count Poison rotation: Track when your opponent uses their Poison offensively or on defense elsewhere. Push with Graveyard immediately when Poison is out of their hand for maximum Skeleton survival.

  • Ice Golem frost synergy: Time Ice Golem to die inside the Graveyard radius. The death frost (75 damage) weakens defensive troops enough for Skeletons to overwhelm them, especially Minions and Goblins.

  • Opposite lane pressure: When the opponent drops a Golem, Giant, or Lava Hound in the back, immediately Graveyard the opposite tower with a cheap tank. They cannot defend both lanes with 2-3 elixir.

  • Double Graveyard in triple elixir: In overtime or triple elixir, cycle fast enough to have two Graveyards active simultaneously. Forty Skeletons overwhelm any single counter and guarantee tower destruction.

Common Mistakes

  • Naked Graveyard: Playing Graveyard without a tank in front means the tower kills every Skeleton as it spawns. You spend 5 elixir for nearly zero damage and give the opponent a massive counter-push window.

  • Same placement every game: Using identical Graveyard placement lets opponents memorize the exact Poison or Valkyrie drop point. Vary your offset by 1-2 tiles to force reactive instead of predictive defense.

  • Graveyard into Poison: Committing Graveyard when you know the opponent has Poison in hand wastes 5 elixir. Bait their Poison with other threats or wait for them to use it on offense first.

  • Ignoring elixir disadvantage: Playing Graveyard + Poison (10 elixir) when behind in elixir leaves you completely defenseless. Build an elixir lead through efficient defense before committing your full combo.

  • No secondary win condition: Relying solely on Graveyard for all damage makes you predictable. Use Poison chip, Knight counterpushes, and spell cycling to diversify your damage sources and keep the opponent guessing.
